The Hollies - Concert Review

Dublin, National Concert Hall, 20th February 2004 - by Mary Sharkey

I am a little nervous about doing the review as I have never done one before, but it will be honest so here goes. (It might also be a bit heavy on praise!! but I cannot think of a bad word to say about them...

On Friday 20 February 04 the Hollies played in the National Concert Hall in Dublin. I have been a fan for many years but this was my first experience of seeing them live.

The NCH is a wonderful venue for any band as the acoustics are brilliant.

From the moment they stepped on stage the Hollies did not put a foot or a note wrong. I was a little worried about Carl Wayne singing their songs, but my fears were groundless - he did a great job! The crowd was hopping and he kept the mood going with a good rapport with the audience throughout. Irish audiences love this and they showed their appreciation.

Tony Hicks was the star of the show for me, well I am slightly prejudiced as he has always been my favourite member of the band. His guitar playing and singing were great and I'd love to know his secret for staying so young looking - he has not changed since the sixties - how does he do it? I can't forget to mention Alan Coates - he is an excellent singer. The acoustic sets that the lads did were also a highlight of the show.

Every member of the band gave their all to the performance.

We really loved the Move numbers Blackberry Way and Fire Brigade - that was a great idea to include those.

As you can see I really loved the Hollies concert and I cannot wait to see them again - hopefully not such a long gap this time.

Come back to Eire anytime.
